The Style of Being a Member

Last week I participated in a conference where they called the credit union industry "un-cool" and "less sophisticated." Well I could hop on my soap box and discuss how the credit union movement is cool, unique, and full of style based on their member/ownership. However, I believe that in today's society, perception is reality. So I ask you the people of the cyberspace, how do we make credit unions cool again? How do we communicate that if you have an account you are an owner with the same vote as anyone else who has an account? Credit Unions are an interesting breed. A breed of financial institution that is more interested in YOU than in profits for shareholders. I love my credit union, I love the lower fees, lower loan rates, and higher savings rates. But is that it? Is price our sole driver for financial decisions? Has the Banking Industry become a series of pseudo Walmart's conquering the world based on price? I love the idea of the credit union movement where the focus is "people helping people" and not on bank shareholders making profits at the cost of the general public. Is that style and/or is that enough? Credit Unions are listening and responding but we need and want your help! Gen Yer's, Gen Xer's, Baby Boomers, and even you lively Millenials, please let us know what idea's you may have to help bring back STYLE to Credit Unions!!

A passionate credit union member wanting to help,
